Brianna Reagan Art - Inspired by Choices and the Experiences

Brianna Reagan was always artistically inclined growing up, and her parents nurtured it well. When she "grew up" she wanted to be a graphic designer for snowboards and skate decks and completed a semester of college in a Graphic Design program in Portland, OR. It was at this time when Brianna realized that she disliked making art on a computer screen and came running back to her inks & paper in Alaska. "Would still love to do a skate/snowboard deck, sometime. Hint. Hint)".

Where do you find your inspiration?
I am inspired by life, and books, and music. I tend to "collect" thoughts and ideas, and then "fit" them together like puzzle pieces.

If you could work with another artist, who would it be? / who is your favorite artist?
Gris Grimly. Gris Grimly. Gris Grimly. Oh, did I mention Gris Grimly? Greg "Craola" Simkins is up there. Amy Sol. Jeremy Bastian. Audrey Kawasaki. Kiel Johnson. James Jean. Erika Sanada. Marc Scheff. Stella Im Hultberg. David Petersen.

What has been the best moment in your career?
Best moment? I'm going to have to quote Martin Powell, here, "I'd like to think that the best is yet to be."

What is your ideal day?
An ideal day for me would mean the dishes cleaned themselves, the laundry wash / dried / and folded itself, the house would never get dirty, and my hair would remain in a perfectly messy knot all day.

Who is your role model?
I don't think I can pin point just one... I tend to appreciate other artists or professionals that work hard on a daily basis, the ones who constantly have a new project in front of them.

If you could do anything, what would it be?
If I could do anything, I would quit my day job and pursue my art full time, which would miraculously give me healthcare benefits because I can do anything. Benefits...ugh. That's so adult of me.

Why do you create art?
I create art because I'm addicted. I don't know how else to be.

What art do you most identify with?
Mostly with anything you can tell was handmade. I like brush strokes, and purposefully messy lines, or imagery that depicts unreal things. Art that exudes mastery of craftsmanship.

How has your art changed throughout your life?
It changes every day, to be honest. I feel like I can't return to a project I started 3 years ago simply because I've learned so much since then. My art now will reflect and carry these new things that I didn't have 3 years ago, and then the outcome wouldn't be cohesive. I separate myself from each piece of art when completed, otherwise I look at it as "what can I do to make that better?" I learn from each piece that way, and take it with me to the next.

What is your dream project?
Dream project? Easy. Illustrate something for Neil Gaiman. Wait, or, have my web comic/graphic novel developed into a stop animation movie. OR, hold on, to open an art-cafe where everything is handmade, from the tables to the food.... I'm a dreamer, I know. But I chase my dreams down and own them. #watchmenow. (see what I did there? WATCH...)

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
"Make something REALLY FUCKING GOOD." - from David Petersen who heard it from Jeremy Bastian who heard it from Quentin Tarantino.
