Where do you find your inspiration?
First and foremost, it's knowing that my work is making someone smile that inspires me to keep going and get out of bed every day. I also love food and nature - dogs, cats, whatever might be crossing my path that sparks something in my brain to create a painting.
What has been the best moment in your career?
It's a toss up between seeing my artwork on a 15 ft banner hanging in WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, CA and seeing my painting "Garden Party" for Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty, hanging in the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
What is your ideal day?
My first thought would be something close to home - spending time with my family, finishing up a painting, having some good food. But then I remember the wonderful time my husband and I spent in Tokyo! A nice spring day in Harajuku, stop in at Lawsons for a canned iced coffee and explore the side streets off of Omotesando.
Makes us want a donut!
Who is your role model?
That's a tough one. I'm in awe of so many other people and their ability to create in all types of situations. I'd love to be able to set aside my feelings sometimes and just get the job done.
What is your dream project?
I thought about this long and hard and I've been so lucky with my career so far that I don't have any dream projects left! I think it's time that I start dreaming bigger again, huh? ;)
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Everything is going to be alright. No matter how difficult things can be, in time, everything is going to be alright.
For what in life do you feel most grateful?
I'm most grateful for my husband, partner and best friend, Ed Mironiuk. We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this year and I couldn't feel luckier! Whenever I get stuck or need to brainstorm he's always there to help me. He has been with me through the very best and the very worst of times and never once wavered in his love and support of me.
If you could work with another artist, who would it be and what would you work on?
I thought about this one and what a surprise - my husband said, "What about Bob Ross?". What a great idea! I grew up watching Bob Ross and would have loved to paint side by side with him and take in his overwhelming joy for life and painting in person.
What's the single most important skill you've learned to be successful at creating art?
As soon as I get a show, or sign a contract for work, I create a schedule for getting my work done on time including allowing for things to go 'wrong'. I can't sleep at night if I'm not on time and within my schedule. I don't know if that's the reason I'm successful but it's something that I can't create without.
