Chris Murray Interview

When was the first moment you decided you wanted to be an artist?
Not sure if there was a time where I ever decided to be one.  I think that's something your born with.  I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil so it was inevitable that I make it my career.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Life, music, movies and other artwork.

If you could work with another artist, who would it be? / who is your favorite artist? There are way WAY too many to name.  I have a laundry list...wouldn't even know where to begin.  My fav. graff artist / muralists at the moment are Nychos and Tristan Eaton.  I've always loved 123 Klan and Dabs Myla.  James Jean is a beast, Esoa Andrews, Joao Ruas and Aaron Horkey too!

What has been the best moment in your career?
When I realized I can make a living from this and could scrap the 9-5 life!!

We're envious!

What is your ideal day?
Wake up, grab some breakfast.  Walk the dog.  Run NO errands and start drawing without any pressure from deadlines!

Not entirely sure what's going on here, but we like it.

Who is your role model?
Anyone doing good in the world and who goes out of their way too be kind and helpful.

If you could do anything, what would it be?

Well I'm doing what I love to do. If I could do something else on the side I would like to help in some way change all the police brutality thats happening.  The racial injustice is out of hand.  That and help the mentally unstable because I think thats a big problem in this country too.  Helping war vets and those who are starving without meals and / or shelter is a big one too.

Why do you create art?
It's the only thing that ever brought me pure happiness.

This is creepy. But cool. But there's butterflies so it has to be happy, right? Guys?

What art do you most identify with?
Anything that someone made that is beautiful to look at and strikes some sort of emotion.  It could be shapes, people, flowers, letters...whatever.  As long as I like to look at it and want to dissect it.  Thats my kind of art.

How has your art changed throughout your life?
I have a much more sophisticated look on it now.  When I was younger it was cool because I could draw a person and it looked like that person.  Now it's a way of life.  Everything I see with my eyes I relate to art in some way.  A day doesn't go by where I'm not thinking about it.  Now its much more a part of me then say when I was in highschool or college.

What is your dream project?
To work on something help the human race and the planet we all live on.  Something like that.  A piece that would be around for centuries to come.  I'd love that.  Longevity!!

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
"The saddest thing in life is wasted talent" - Bronx Tale
