Keeping Your Child's Motivation Strong In Their After School Activity

Posted,

If you have a child in an after school activity, you know that sometimes they can get bored or unmotivated in it, even if they like doing it or have a natural talent in it. Sometimes, you just want them to try something new for a few weeks and you want to keep your child going until it's over - or until they like it. In the meantime, you may need some help with keeping a kid's motivation strong in this after school activity. Here are some pointers to keep their eyes on the ball. "I always tell my kids if you lay down, people will step over you. But if you keep scrambling, if you keep going, someone will always, always give you a hand. Always. But you gotta keep dancing, you gotta keep your feet moving." Morgan Freeman Show Them the Benefits of Their After School Activity Your son may be bored with going to baseball practice, but if you show him how many new friends he's making, he may just decide he wants to keep doing it. Socialization has always been a great benefit of after school programs. Kids meet new friends, sometimes in other school districts, who share their interests. Kids who make friends in other states can have pen pals (nowadays email). Your daughter may hate going to dance class. But if she learns that dance gives her a stronger, healthier and more flexible body, she may just enjoy it so much more. Physically stronger kids have more confidence in themselves and carry it around with them in they way they walk and interact with others. Set Goals That Come As a Result of This After School Activity Sit down with your child and ask them what they want to accomplish personally. They may have their eye on a bike or a game. They may want to win a prize offered at the end of the activity. It should be something that really motivates them. They will learn how to set and achieve goals, one of the best ways for success in their adult lives. They will also learn discipline and consistency. These skills are also priceless when moving towards success as adults. Reward Success When Accomplishing Their Goal in the After School Activity When a child achieves something, praise his hard work and his effort. In addition to the great feeling of accomplishing the goal, kids can reap the benefits of getting rewards from their parents. Be careful not to base your encouragement solely on accomplishments - be there when they miss a milestone or a task too. Positive reinforcements beef up confidence and increase self-esteem. Conversely, beware of harsh criticism. It can ruin the frail ego of children and play havoc with their minds. Do you want some great ideas for setting goals and rewarding kids for their accomplishments? Get them a custom gift. We make changeable watches and also custom watches. You can design a watch with your child's goal on it and give it to them as a reminder of what they want to accomplish. You can also create a custom watch and imprint their accomplishment on it.
