Interchangeable Watches the Modify Way

Posted,

It's a great question :) After regaling you with (fascinating) insights into how to make Modify straps here and here, it's time to see where the real customization happens! How do we make interchangeable watches? Follow this process [caption id="attachment_542" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="But first, one last look at our strap mold. This sucker ways over 200 pounds. Reeeeeeediculous"]The mold for our interchangeable watch straps[/caption] Modify puts the "custom" into "dope" into "interchangeable watches". That sentence may not make sense, but those of you who have played in our sandbox and worked to build your own watch collection  [click that link if you haven't. It's an awesome experience!] know exactly what I'm talking about. We have a *lot* of different straps and faces... the goal, of course, is to help our ModiFamily create interchangeable watch collections that they love, so that they can dance [caption id="attachment_544" align="aligncenter" width="647" caption="Still my favorite photo. Want to see great creativity across all media? Follow Carlton Mackey... you can see some of his interchangeable watches on our Community page"]It takes a real man to rock this interchangeable watch. Well done Mr. Mackey[/caption] The process of creating really really really dope interchangeable watches normally consists of
  1. Y'all tell us what designs you want ["A bird!" "A Domo watch!" "Something with a swear word in it!"]
  2. We draft them and test them on the Modify Facebook page [except for the swear word watch. Mom, that's not appropriate]
  3. Y'all say, "dope" or "boooooooooooooo" to our interchangeable watches
  4. We produce sweet watches per the following steps
[caption id="attachment_555" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="1) Ashil pulls together the design spec. In this instance, we designed an interchangeable watch for Solon, a school in the Cleve!"]The face-plate for Solon High's interchangeable watch[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_545" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="2) The faceplates are cut from stainless steel, and dullllllll"]Modify's interchangeable watches in pre-production[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_546" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="3) Shine on!"]Adding the shine to our interchangeable watches[/caption] [caption id="attachment_547" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="4) Using the design stencil, paint the right colors onto the interchangeable watch face"]Painting Aaron's favorite interchangeable watch design[/caption] [caption id="attachment_548" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Interlude: Hello Domo"][/caption] [caption id="attachment_550" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="5) My face! Put down my face!"]Step one in our plan to make interchangeable watches for each Google team[/caption] [caption id="attachment_551" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="6) Secret sauce. Make the interchangeable watch actually tick..."]Turning the interchangeable design into an interchangeable watch[/caption] [caption id="attachment_552" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="7) Ease diplomatic tension at factory ping-pong table"]Ping Pong at the Modify Factory![/caption] [caption id="attachment_553" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="Interlude: Sneak peak at some of our upcoming designs..."]Interchangeable watch face-plates of all colors[/caption] [caption id="attachment_554" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="8) Team photo with obligatory "I'm taking a photo of you, you're taking a photo of me" meme"][/caption] That's it. If you want to see the designs we have come up with so far, please try to  build your own watch collection ... because Modify's interchangeable watches are the greatest thing since the movie Indiana Jones.
