Carolina Seth - A Fate that was Sealed

Posted,

Since very young, Carolina Seth was always doing something creative; painting and making things. She remembers her mom keeping empty boxes and even empty egg cartons because she would always find a way to use them to create something.

At school Carolina doodled on her textbooks, the teachers often told her parents that "her head was in the clouds" or daydreaming. When Carolina was five, she won a children's national painting contest in Spain. Shortly after, she announced that she wanted to be an artist. So, that day her fate was sealed.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in almost everything and anywhere. I'm a fan of movies, architecture and the world of Antoni Gaudi, natural history, science and fashion. Forms and colors always inspire me, and nowhere better to find those in nature. New ideas can strike anytime, it could be looking at a painting at a museum, or a peculiar happening on an average day. I like to materialize those ideas on to canvas or paper and create surreal situations, or as I like to refer to them, a magic realism.

Are there any big events coming up the audience should know about?

This month, I'm exhibiting for the first time in Los Angeles at a group show; "Beastly Beings" at Cactus Gallery, with an incredible group of artists. Animals and creatures, real and imagined are one of my favorite things to paint, so it's been indulgent and a lot of fun to create work for this event. The show runs until June 4th. Starting in June, I'm collaborating in Yay! LA Magazine's Legends Every Day multimedia project, where participating artists create work based on specific movies. I will be illustrating my interpretation of "Spirited Away" and "The Fifth Element". I collaborated in Yay! LA Magazine last year's Horror Movie a Day and had a blast. I love movies and the creative possibilities for an artist are endless. Sharing them with movie and art fans is very cool and rewarding.
